Beam Suntory has rolled out a heavily-peated version of its peated Irish single malt whiskey, Connemara, to European Travel Retail.

Connemara Turf Mór is 50ppm (phenol parts per million), giving a "profound peat flavour and a long, full-bodied smoky finish, which offers a more unusual flavour profile for an Irish whiskey", Beam Suntory said today. It will be available in 70cl format in some European airports.

Michael Cockram, Beam Suntory's global marketing director for Travel Retail, said: "We are proud to represent the only Irish peated whiskey in existence. The launch of a heavily-peated malt for Connemara is ground-breaking for the category and Turf Mór reflects Connemara's use of traditional techniques with a modern twist."

This month, Beam Suntory hailed a healthy lift in sales in the year so far, although domestic beer pulled down the top-line for parent Suntory Holdings.
