Beam Suntory's Auchentoshan Scotch whisky brand has launched a limited-edition iteration created by its bartender panel, The New Malt Order. The Bartenders' Malt is the result of handing the liquid's production process – including packaging and branding - to 12 bartenders selected through Auchentoshan's New Malt Order global competition, which launched last year.

The no-age statement iteration will be available in limited – albeit unspecified – units.

NOT YOUR TRADITIONAL SINGLE MALT
The Bartenders' Malt is the very first limited expression of its kind. Auchentoshan placed the entire production process of the ground-breaking liquid into the hands of its international bartender collective, challenging them to develop a product from the ground up that reflects the brand's forward-thinking approach and 'Distilled Different' ethos. 
 
Continually breaking convention amongst traditional Scotch whiskies and the typical bartender competition format, Auchentoshan took a refreshingly 'hands-off' approach to the production process. Every single element of The Bartenders' Malt has been developed by the New Malt Order bartenders, from the careful selection of casked liquids to the packaging design and the branding of the expression. 
 
TASTING NOTES
Gold copper in colour with subtle grassy reflections, the Bartenders' Malt offers dried apricots, milk, chocolate, honey and green tobacco leaf on the nose. On the palate the Single Malt reveals delicate floral cherry blossom and buttery brioche undercut by zesty notes of ginger, resulting in an edgy and expanding whisky with a long lasting warmth. 
 
NEW MALT ORDER
The New Malt Order is not only a competition but a brand collaboration that pushes typical boundaries, but then Auchentoshan is anything but typical, it's a brand that thrives on change. The inaugural New Malt Order competition launched in 2016 to hero the best bartending talent who stand out from the crowd and champion their passion, which is then ultimately reflected in the new expression. 
 
Competition entrants from five countries were invited to create their own unique bitters using Auchentoshan® New Make Spirit, adding it to their individual and refreshingly different take on the signature Auchentoshan® & Ale serve. Triple distilled to every last drop, Auchentoshan® New Make Spirit is more open to embracing flavour than conventional Scottish single malts, making it the ideal base for experimentation. The shortlist was judged by an expert panel in each country to identify 12 impressive individuals who have what it takes to forge the world's first Auchentoshan® New Malt Order Collective. 
 
The winnings bartenders were invited to Glasgow, the home of Auchentoshan®, to meet their New Malt Order cohorts for a once-in-a-lifetime, five-day immersion into the city's effervescent, creative culture. Here the New Malt Order Collective joined the Auchentoshan® Master Blender for exclusive technical and laboratory sessions, sensual experiments and personality pairings with whisky casks topped by a long and discursive blending session of maturing Auchentoshan® whiskies. Each blend created by the 12 bartenders were then collaborated to create The Bartenders' Malt. 
 
The Bartenders' Malt's unique packaging has been influenced by the New Malt Order Collective, showcasing the collaboration between the 12 winning bartenders and Auchentoshan®. The new bottling is presented in a premium carton and features the 12 bartenders' signatures.
