A new Bourbon producer, the Bardstown Bourbon Company, has unveiled a US$25m investment in its first distillery.

The company said yesterday (26 June) the facility, in Bardstown, Kentucky, will open in 2016 and employ 35 people. Construction will begin this summer.

The 45,000-square-foot distillery in the Nelson County Industrial Park will produce Bourbon and other spirits using local ingredients, the company said. A visitor centre and warehouses are also planned.

"Our campus and distillery will present the craft in a very approachable and educational fashion,” said Steve Nally, the company's master distiller. Nally previously worked as master distiller for Beam Suntory Inc's Maker’s Mark brand.

The new site will mark the fifth distillery in Kentucky's Nelson County.

Bourbon is enjoying growth in global demand, and a number of producers are investing in new infrastructure. In May, Diageo revealed plans to spend $115m on a new distillery in Kentucky.
