Bacardi has lined up the release of Bacardi Spiced as it phases out the Oakheart brand.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed to just-drinks today that the 35%-abv Bacardi Spiced is being rolled out across Europe, with more markets to follow later in the year. The spokesperson added: "Oakheart is being phased out and will be out of stores by the end of 2019."

"With the increasing popularity of flavoured spirits and following the recent launch of Bacardi Ginger and Bacardi Raspberry, we are officially bringing Oakheart into the Bacardi Carta core range as Bacardi Spiced," the spokesperson said.

Bacardi Spiced is described as being made with gold rum "mellowed in charred American Oak for a hint of smokiness and blended with natural flavours and spices".

Oakheart first appeared in 2011, also at 35% abv. In a 2016 campaign, the company moved to separate Oakheart from the Bacardi brand, saying at the time that "Oakheart is in the bonding need-state while Bacardi lives in liberation".

Bacardi Spiced rolled out to the UK in February, exclusively via Tesco, with a wider launch in the country scheduled for April.
