Australian Vintage has launched a red wine under its McGuigan collaboration with chef and TV presenter John Torode.

The launch, McGuigan Torode Tempranillo, has been timed to make the most of the popularity of European varietals among UK consumers, the company said. The Tempranillo grape variety is synonymous with Spain.

The Tempranillo is the first red in the collaboration series. The fruit for the wine comes from Australia's Adelaide Hills.

The wine is the third in the collaboration series, following McGuigan Torode Rosé and McGuigan Torode Semillon which were launched in 2016 and 2014 respectively.

"A growing appetite for Tempranillo in the UK was our inspiration, and so we explored every corner of the Adelaide Hills before finding the fruit to make our own version of this delicious varietal," chief winemaker Neil McGuigan said. "Bright and approachable, we're confident this wine fits with our shared ambition to create top quality food-friendly wines that anyone can enjoy."

Earlier this month, AV added three sparkling wines to its McGuigan Black Label range
