Wine exports for the month of August were the best so far this year, according to recent figures. The Argentinean National Wine Institute (INV) has announced that the country's wine exports totalled US$21.09m in August, an increase of 13.96% year-on-year.

In volume terms, however, exports fell in the month by 36.38% to 144,076 hectolitres.

The fall in volumes can be attributed to a drop in the sales of bulk wine and a higher base of comparison in 2003, when the country exported high volumes of lower quality bulk wine to the European Union to cover falling stocks in the region.

Total wine exports for the first eight months of this year reached US$138.5m in the first eight months of 2004, an increase of 29.41% over the same period in 2003. Export volumes fell, however, by 21.69% to 948,917 hectolitres.
