Aspall is reportedly worth around US$53m

Privately-owned Aspall has declined to comment on reports linking the UK cider producer to takeover talks with Molson Coors.

Late yesterday, Sky News claimed the Suffolk-based company, owned by the Chevallier-Guild family, is in discussion with "a number of parties" over a possible transaction. Among the interested parties, which includes "both private equity investors and major brewers", is Molson Coors, said Sky without citing specific sources.

When contacted by just-drinks today, a spokesperson for Aspall declined to comment on Sky's article, which suggests the company has an enterprise value of around GBP40m (US$53m).

The report also claims UK peer Aston Manor is also on the lookout for a suitor.

Molson Coors' most recent play in the UK saw the North American group acquire Sharp's Brewery, owner of the Doom Bar ale brand, for GBP20m (then-US$32.4m) in 2011.
