Asahi Soft Drinks Co. and Calpis Co. have plans to set up a joint venture to sell drinks through vending machines in Japan.

The companies said yesterday (15 October) that the joint company, named Asahi Calpis Beverage, will begin trading from 10 December and will have a registered capital of JPY495m (US$4.2m).

Asahi Soft Drinks will hold the majority 80% stake in the company which will cover 180,000 vending machines across the Japanese market, employing 1,300 workers. Its first year is expected to bring JPY100bn in sales revenue, the companies said.
