South African wine brand Arniston Bay is launching a sparkling rosé wine in the UK, as it looks to build on sales growth in 2008.

The wine will have a recommended retail price of GBP7.99, said Arniston Bay, which is owned by South Africa-based 'the company of wine people'.

Arniston brand and business development manager Barney Davis said today (24 February): "The sparkling rose is a natural addition to the range following the launch of the Charmat Brut last year. This makes our offering to the retailer more complete, and provides the consumer with choice for each drinking occasion."

In January, Arniston reported a 35% rise in sales revenue and a 37% rise in volumes for the 12 months ended 29 December. It said that the South African wine category in the UK rose by 23.6% in value and 22% in volume during 2008, according to Nielsen figures.

Rosé wine consumption in the UK increased by nearly 48% between 2003 and 2007, compared to a near-5% decline for red and a 7.7% rise for white, according to market figures released by Vinexpo last month.
