Danish dairy group Arla Foods has expanded its protein range with the launch of new flavoured waters.

Arla, which already produces protein yoghurts and milk, said this week its Protein Water line will roll out from next month. Available in Lemon & Lime and Raspberry & Strawberry flavours, the drink contains 20g of protein per 50cl bottle.

According to Arla, 20g is the optimum amount needed before and after a workout to grow and maintain muscle mass.

"As Arla continues its innovation and development across the range, protein water allows us to increase protein content through everyday products," said Joe Wawrzyniak, brand manager for Arla protein.

The expansion is part of an Arla strategy, unveiled in 2016, to grow in the soft drinks market by offering healthier alternatives. The company said it would use ingredients with specific benefits such as protein, fibres or grains.
