Channel 4 has signed a deal with Appletiser for the sparkling apple drink to be the sponsor of all repeats of the US series Friends throughout this year. This will incorporate all transmissions on both Channel 4 and E4 in a deal worth over £1m, and amounts to over 800 programmes.

Last year, approximately 9.6m people in the UK tuned into the tenth series of Friends screened on Channel 4, with the final episode attracting 4.5m people alone. Appletiser said its sponsorship will be transmitted through to the end of the year with an estimated reach of 28m viewers, with a bias towards an upmarket, 16-34 year old demographic.

In a statement, Caroline Bonpain, brand manager for Appletiser in the UK, said: "We are pleased to be associated with such a well-loved programme. The Appletiser promise is "100% pure pleasure", making Friends a perfect fit for the brand.

"This is the first time we have embraced broadcast sponsorship, and it will give us a fantastic marketing platform for the 'Appletiser' brand for the year."
