The plant will double aluminium bottle capacity in the US

Anheuser-Busch is to double its aluminium bottle capacity with a US$150m expansion of its metal container plant in Missouri.

The US unit of Anheuser-Busch InBev said last week the investment is being driven by demand for Budweiser and Bud Light aluminium bottles. The plant's aluminium production line was only completed last year in an initial $130m project

“The Budweiser and Bud Light aluminium bottles are great additions to our product line-up, and what drives our business also can help drive growth and development in this area,” said Luiz Edmond, Anheuser-Busch's CEO.

According to the group, the upgraded production line will create about 70 new jobs at the facility at a time when the company is cutting back elsewhere.

Last month, A-B InBev confirmed it had made an unspecified number of redundancies in its US business as part of a restructure. The company has struggled in the US of late, with sales and its market share slipping in its last set of results.
