Sources close to brewing giant Anheuser-Busch have said that the company is keen to acquire Germany's top beer export brand Beck's.

According to reports by German press a spokesperson for the company said: "We are very interested in the Beck's brand."

Beck GmbH & Co announced today (Thursday) that it has agreed to sell the company but no details or comments about potential bidders were given.

It has also been reported that Scottish and Newcastle Plc and Interbrew are also interested in acquiring the company and its Beck's brand.

The Beck's brand accounts for 450m litres from the total 570m litres of beer, which was sold by the company in 2000.

It is Germany's fifth largest brewery and could fetch about $893.2m
