Will A-B InBev eventually swoop for SABMiller?

Anheuser-Busch InBev has declined to comment on reports that it is in talks with banks about financing a deal for its rival SABMiller

In the latest round of long-running speculation over a 'mega-merger,' the Wall Street Journal today cited unnamed sources suggeting the Belgium-headquartered group is lining up financing before making a "formal approach" for SABMiller. The deal is rumoured to be worth around US$122bn.

An A-B InBev spokesperson told just-drinks today: "We do not comment on market rumours or speculations."

The claims come after Heineken today disclosed that it has rejected a takeover approach from SABMiller. The Heineken family, the majority owner of the Dutch brewer's holding company, has said it wants to keep the firm "independent".
