AmBev has put aside BRL7.5m (US$3.6m) to cover a dispute with a Brazilian distributor.

The brewer said it has provisioned the money to cover the row with Natalense Comercial de Bebidas, based in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

Natalense issued a lawsuit against AmBev in 2005 after the brewer ended a contract to distribute its Antarctica brand. The distributor has demanded compensation for rebranding its beer trucks, contracts and equipment.

The case, which is in front of the state court in Rio Grande do Norte, is expected to be settled in the coming weeks. A technical expert for the court has already issued a preliminary judgement of BRL558m, although the judge is yet to decide whether to accept this judgement.

In a regulatory filing, AmBev said: "Our understanding is that the technical finding will not be considered in the final judgment."

Sectors: Beer & cider
