Amazon has launched its Prime Now service in Seattle, with wine and beer deliveries promised within one hour of ordering.

Amazon Prime Now joins the Fresh grocery delivery service

The mobile app allows members of Amazon's Prime level of subscription to now order wine and beer for home delivery. The roll-out to Seattle marks the first time Amazon has offered alcohol as part of its one-hour service, according to Reuters

Stephenie Landry, director of Amazon’s Prime Now service, said: “Prime Now is our fastest delivery option ever. With Prime Now, you can skip a trip to the store and get the items you need delivered right to your door in under an hour."

Prime Now, which costs $99 for one year's subscription, operates from 8am until midnight, seven days a week. Two-hour delivery is free and one-hour delivery costs US$7.99.
