Altia Corp's Larsen Cognac is to enter new South East Asian markets after the company signed a distribution deal in the region.

The Cognac will be available in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore for the first time through distributor AsiaEuro, Altia said today. The partnership, described as "long-term", will also cover Larsen's distribution in China and Hong Kong, the company said.

An Altia spokesperson told just-drinks the China deal will mean a return to the country for Larsen after a period out of the market. It is not immediately clear why Larsen Cognac was taken out of China.

Cognac sales in China have roller-coastered over the past few years, with declines felt by all major players in the category in the wake of a government crackdown on corruption that dampened demand for high-end brands. The category is now back in growth in China.

The new AsiaEuro distribution deal will start early next year, and includes the launch of two new Cognacs - Larsen VSOP Reserve and Larsen XO Reserve - exclusively for AsiaEuro's portfolio in Asia.

Altia purchased Larsen, which has Norwegian heritage, from Remy Cointreau in 2013.
