Altia and Unimedic said the new facility would be certified for organic production

Altia will partner a contract manufacturer in Sweden to produce its range of aquavits.

The Nordic drinks company said late last week that it had established a long-term production agreement with Unimedic. The pair will invest in production equipment and they have started the construction of a new distillery.

The facility is located in Matfors, Sundsvall. Financial details were not disclosed.

According to a spokesperson for the company, the brands were previously produced in Ahus, in the same facility that produces Pernod Ricard's Absolut vodka.

The agreement covers all of Altia's Swedish Aquavits and spiced spirits: O P Anderson, Skåne Akvavit, Hallands Fläder, Bäska Droppar, Gammal Norrlands Akvavit, Östgöta Sädesbrännvin, Läckö Slottsaquavit, Herrgårds Aquavit, Rånäs Brännvin, Nyköpingsbrännvin, Svartvinbärsbrännvin and Örtagårdsbrännvin.

"Altia relocates the production of the Swedish aquavits and spiced spirits and secures the continuation of the Swedish origin," the company said. "In Unimedic, Altia has found a new credible and qualified Swedish partner. The construction of the new distillery in Matfors, Sundsvall has started and it is planned to be ready for production early 2017. The plant will be certified for organic production."

Earlier this year, Altia and Brown-Forman renewed their import and distribution agreements in Sweden, Finland and Norway.
