Allied Domecq has announced a series of promotions and appointments in its US wines division. Mark Koppen has been made the marketing director of the company's Champagne brands, responsible for all marketing and promotional activities relating to Perrier Jouët and Champagne Mumm. In a statement Allied Domecq said: "Koppen brings extensive experience in selling and marketing luxury wines, having previously held senior marketing positions with Robert Mondavi Winery, Beaulieu Vineyards and Kendall-Jackson." He will be based at the Healdsburg office of Allied Domecq Wines USA. Pete Opatz has been named director of viticulture, overseeing all company vineyard operations in California. Allied Domecq's California wine properties include, Clos du Bois and Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma County, Atlas Peak Vineyards and William Hill Winery in Napa Valley and Callaway Coastal Winery in Southern California. Opatz will work closely with the general managers and vineyard managers of each winery at maintaining and improving wine grape quality. Opatz has over 25 years of experience in vineyard management and was director of viticulture at Clos du Bois for the past two years. Ron McClendon becomes the new general manager at Callaway Coastal Winery in Temecula, California. McClendon comes to Callaway from Allied Domecq's Vides del Guadalupe Winery in Baja California, Mexico, where he was winemaker/production manager. Previously he was winemaker at Culbertson Winery (now Thornton Winery) in Temecula and at R.H. Phillips. Nancy Aurely is the new district manager in San Francisco, responsible for wine sales in the city and county of San Francisco. Lisa Olsen has been promoted to the position of regional manager Northern California. Andy Podshadley is the new district manager for the East Bay of San Francisco and South San Joaquin Valley. Katie Green is the new on-premise specialist for Arizona and Nevada. Holly Schallon has been promoted to the position of hospitality manager at William Hill Winery and Atlas Peak Vineyards in Napa Valley. Schallon has been in the William Hill Winery hospitality department since 1998 and will now be responsible for managing the tasting room and all events at the two wineries.
