The new service, which Aldi first announced in September, will sell more than 90 wines by the case including rosé, sparkling and premium ranges, the company said yesterday. Selected wines from Aldi's premium 'Lot Series' will also be available exclusively online.

"We're particularly keen to expand [our wines'] availability into new parts of the country where we don't currently have physical stores,"  said Aldi UK's CEO, Matthew Barnes. "Selling online is an important step forward for our business."

Aldi claims that one of every 13 bottles of wine bought in the UK is from one of its stores. Year-on year-sales for its top-line Exquisite Collection between 2014 and 2015 were up by a third.

The online service is available throughout the UK, except in Northern Ireland. Free delivery will apply for all orders over GBP50, with a GBP3.00 delivery charge for orders below that amount. Customers can also collect their orders from an Aldi store.
