AG Barr said sales growth reflects a “robust soft drinks market”

AG Barr has recorded an increase in year-to-date sales and said that trading remains in line with expectations, despite weak consumer spending.

Year-to-date sales from 1 February to 3 December increased by 4.6%, the UK soft drinks maker said in an interim statement today (7 December). The growth reflects a "robust soft drinks market", the Irn-Bru maker said.

Sales in the 18-week period from the end of July rose by 5.6%.

"Across the market consumer spending continues to be constrained and competitor promotional activity remains high," the firm said. "We are now entering the important seasonal Christmas trading period when we anticipate marketplace pricing and promotion will remain very competitive."

Despite this, the company said trading remains in line with its plans and that it will meet its full-year expectations.
