Ryan Reynolds with a bottle of Aviation Gin, yesterday

Davos Brands has secured celebrity backing for Aviation Gin, with actor Ryan Reynolds buying an "ownership interest" in the brand.

The US-based spirits and sake distributor confirmed earlier today that Reynolds would take an unspecified stake in Aviation, which sold around 25,000 cases in 2017. Declining to provide specifics, Davos told just-drinks that the Canadian actor has become a "significant owner" and board member. In a Tweet today, however, Reynolds described himself as the "proud owner of a gin company".

Financial details behind the transaction were not disclosed.

Reynolds will play "an active role" in the day-to-day business at Aviation, overseeing the brand's "creative direction".

Today's announcement comes just over a year after Davos acquired Aviation, described as an "American gin with a unique botanical mix". The company, which had previously been Aviation's sales and marketing partner, bought it outright from Oregon's House Spirits Distillery. The craft distiller still produces the liquid for Davos, which also owns Tyku Sake, Sombra Mezcal and Astral Tequila.

Almost exactly a year ago, Campari Group spent at least US$58m on the Bulldog gin brand
