Wine makers in the Abruzzo region of central Italy have posted a slight fall in Novello production, according to recent figures. The Italian Institute for Novello wine said earlier this week that the region produced 290,300 bottles of Novello last year, compared to 311,800 bottles in 2003.

Sales from the region's wineries came in at EUR1.45m (US$1.76m) in the year, the institute added.

Novello production from Abruzzo made up 1.6% of the national output in 2004, while sales made up 1.3% of total national sales. Novello wine output from Italy last year was 17.8m bottles, the institute said.
