Anheuser-Busch InBev has been moved to confirm that it is looking to offload SABMiller's "European premium brands" to ward off regulatory issues that may arise from its pending purchase of SAB.

The announcement this morning follows news reports in the UK last weekend linking AB InBev to the divestment of Grolsch and Peroni Nastro Azzuro. At the time, neither side would comment on The Sunday Times' claim, but both issued statements today, confirming the report.

AB InBev said it will "contact potential purchasers in the coming weeks to assess their interest" in both Peroni and Grolsch, as well as UK craft brand Meantime, which SAB acquired just over six months ago.

"Like the previously-announced disposal of the Miller business to Molson Coors," AB InBev noted, "these steps reflect AB InBev's pro-active approach to addressing potential regulatory concerns."

SAB's chief executive, Alan Clark, added: "Until the change of control, we will continue to invest in growing these great beers."

AB InBev's takeover of SAB is expected to complete before the end of next year, although regulatory issues could push closure into 2017.
