Fifteen people were charged in Turkey yesterday in connection with the bootleg operation that produced a counterfeit brand of raki which is linked to the deaths of 15 people in the country.

Eleven people have been charged with endangering lives or causing death through poisoning, and of forming a criminal gang. Another four face charges of aiding a criminal gang.

A total of 24 people have died over the past month from drinking the bootleg raki, a local aniseed-based spirit.
