According to the coalition of Islamic organisations behind the boycott of Coca-Cola in Malaysia, around 1,200 restaurants in the country have stopped selling the company's products.

Jamarulkhan Kadir, president of the Association of Muslim Restaurant Operators of Malaysia, said around 1,200 Muslim restaurants, mainly in Kuala Lumpur, had agreed to stop selling Coca-Cola. The campaign is expected to last three months.

A spokesman for Coca-Cola Malaysia said he could not comment on the claim that the restaurants had ceased selling its soft drinks.
