Huge growth

The international (non-Scotch) whiskey category is a vast, high-growth part of the global alcoholic drinks marketplace, totalling some 307.1m nine-litre cases in 2016. Of this figure, the Indian whisky segment alone accounts for 189.7m cases, while US whiskey (43.8m cases), Canadian (27.3m cases), Japanese (13.4m cases) and Irish (8.7m cases) are all substantial categories in their own right. 

Huge growth: Recent growth has been rapid, with world whiskies posting an absolute growth of 46.1m cases over the past five years (2012-2016).

Bright future: Future growth looks assured for all segments. Indian whisky – where supply constraints are less of an inhibiting factor compared to US or Irish – will be responsible for the lion’s share of future volume growth.
