just-drinks, in association with The IWSR, presents this seven-part review of the global gin category. In part three, we look at what the future trends will be for the sector.

Gin's nascent trend of value growth offsetting volume declines will be magnified in the years to 2021: the category will shed more than 1m cases over that timescale, but all of this and more is accounted for by losses in commodity markets the Philippines and India.

The US will also lose volumes, the IWSR predicts, but its dip below 9m cases by 2021 disguises the likely growth in premium-and-above brands. Losses will be mainly confined to the standard and value segments.

Spain will continue to perform strongly, passing 5m cases by 2021, but a number of other markets show great potential for growth: Global Travel Retail, Germany, France, Portugal and Turkey, in particular.
