Last week, E&J Gallo Winery increased its presence in its home state of California, when it lined up the acquisition of Stagecoach Vineyard in Napa Valley. The privately-held wine company, which is the world's largest vineyard owner, owns 15 wineries in California and Washington, and over 23,000 acres of vineyards across California alone.

Here, we look at Gallo's footprint across the state of California.

  • Louis M Martini - one of California's oldest vineyards, Louis Martini joined Gallo in 2002. It is made up of 680 plantable acres of vineyard in Napa and Sonoma
  • Bridlewood Estate Winery - acquired 13 years ago, Bridlewood sits on 105 acres near Santa Barbara
  • Edna Valley Vineyard - purchased from Diageo and Paragon Vineyard in 2011, Gallo took ownership of the winery and its namesake brand, as well as 44 acres of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyard
  • Courtside Cellars - bought in 2012, comprise 34 acres and a winery with an annual crush-capacity of 60,000 tonnes
  • J Vineyards & Winery - purchased in March 2015, the transaction comprised a winery in Healdsburg and about 300 acres spread over nine vineyards in the Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley AVAs 
  • Asti Winery - bought from Treasury Wine Estates in July 2015, made up of 535 acres, 275 of which are vineyard . Also included the Souverain brand
  • Talbott Vineyards - came into the Gallo fold in August 2015, the purchase included the Talbott brand and winery, as well as the 525-acre Sleepy Hollow Vineyard
  • The Ranch Winery - acquired in late-2015, comprises around 70 acres of land as well as 4.6m cases of bottling capacity and 8m gallons of storage
  • Gallo's other vineyard holdings in California are William Hill Estate, Gallo of Sonoma and E&J Gallo Wineries in ModestoLivingston and Fresno

Over in Washington state, the group owns Columbia Winery and Sunnyside.
