Monster showed strong international sales growth

Monster Beverage Corp remains on course for growth despite “disappointing” first-quarter results, an analyst has said.

Stifel's Mark Astrachan said in a note today (9 May) tha energy drinks continued to outperform other categories. International sales were up 30% compared to a year prior while US “weakness” is unlikely to last, Astrachan added.

“The energy drink category continues to have more favourable growth than most consumer categories,” he said. “We also believe Monster is maintaining share gains in the US and has a considerable long-term international opportunity.”

However, Astrachan warned that growth is “slowing modestly more than anticipated”.

In first-quarter results released yesterday, Monster posted a 6.5% net sales growth, compared to a 21% jump in full-year 2012 and 30% in 2011.
