John Glaetzer, the quiet winemaker who was hugely instrumental in making the ebullient Wolf Blass an international Australian wine success has announced his retirement after 30 years with Blass.

Glaeztzer will retire from the Beringer Blass arm of the Foster's brewing and wine group at the end of this month. He will maintain his own boutique label and be a consultant to Wolf Blass Wines in South Australia's Barossa region.
