Rising spirits sales boosted French wine and spirits export revenues last year, according to a forecast from trade association, the Fédération des exportateurs de vins et spiritueux de France.

Export revenues rose by 1.5-2% in 2005, the FEVS said, largely due to increased shipments of spirits and, to a lesser degree, of Champagne.

The FEVS said that, even though exports of French wines last year showed a decrease of around 2% on 2004, the fall was not as steep as previous years.

French wine exports rose 9% in October and 8% in November, buoyed by a better value-for-money rating in the US, a major market for French wines.
