William Grant & Sons has lined up a global packaging refresh for its Wood's Old Navy Rum.

The update, announced this week, comprises a thicker glass bottle and a cork stopper. The liquid, which is produced in Guyana using black strap molasses, remains unchanged.

"After evaluating … consumer trends and the dark rum category, we wanted more premium packaging to match the quality of the liquid inside the bottle," said brand manager Gwilym Cooke. "We hope the new, premium packaging can … build further brand equity in the process."

Roll-out of the new pack will commence early next month. In the UK, Wood's retails at GBP25.59 (US$37) in the off-trade.

William Grant acquired Woods Old Navy in late-2002. The company also bought the Old Vatted Demerara and Vat 19 rum brands at the same time.
