Scotch whisky group Whyte and Mackay has announced the appointment of Bob Brannan as its first group managing director.

Brannan was most recently on the board of rival William Grant and Sons, and was its previous group MD.

A spokesman for Whyte and Mackay told just-drinks Brannan "has a strong track record in business transformation, and the company sees this as a very strategic appointment. It provides strong, day-to-day leadership 'on the ground' in Scotland."

Vivian Imerman remains as full-time chairman and chief executive. Finance and HR will continue to report to Imerman, as will Bob Brennan. All other functions will now report directly into Bob Brennan.
