Westons has released a mulled cider to help attract new consumers into the flavoured cider category.

The UK-based cider maker released a mulled cider last year for a UK supermarket and its success led to plans for the company's own-brand version, a spokesperson told just-drinks last week. Westons' Twist Mulled Cider comes in a 35-pint box and can be served hot or cold.

Yesterday, Westons announced it had bought an Australian distributor to increase its growth in the country.

Westons Twist Mulled Cider – the New Winter Cider from Westons

Westons has unveiled a new addition to their ‘Twist’ range of flavoured ciders. Infused with traditional mulling spices, Westons Twist Mulled Cider will be available in 35-pint bag-in-box format exclusively to the on trade from September 2012.

Created to be served both hot or cold, Westons Twist Mulled Cider will be a significant margin driver for publicans this winter. Branded pump clips are also available and the new SKU can be ordered either direct online or via Westons’ usual on trade wholesalers.

Ian Lewis, head of marketing at Westons Cider, comments: “The flavoured cider category is extremely buoyant, according to latest Nielson data, the flavoured cider market is up 77% (MAT to 23 June). It’s a fantastic way for attracting new consumers into the category and Westons has already enjoyed success with a number of different limited editions such as Westons Twist Cider with Blackcurrant and a new Raspberry variant that was launched this spring. Our Master Cider Maker first created this Mulled Cider blend last autumn, which we then trialed very successfully in our own pubs in Herefordshire through the winter. We anticipate that licencees will find it a real hit with their customers once the winter evenings start to draw in again.”
