United Spirits is set to fully merge with Shaw Wallace in India, following a final court approval.

United Spirits, part of Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya's UB Group, said on Friday that the High Court in Kolkata has cleared its merger with Shaw Wallace & Co and Primo Distributors.

The approval follows backing from High Courts in Mumbai and Karnataka. "With this, the company has received all the necessary court approvals," said United Spirits.

UB Group signed a deal to acquire Shaw Wallace & Co in 2005, with the intention of creating United Spirits ltd. Today, United Spirits has more than 140 brands and a 60% share of India's blossoming spirits market.

Also in 2005, UB Group rival SABMiller fully acquired Shaw Wallace's beer business, Shaw Wallace Breweries.
