Beaujolais exports to the UK were up for the second year straight

Exports of wine from Beaujolais to the UK have increased for the second year in a row, according to figures released this week.

New figures from Business France show exports to the country jumped by 18% in volumes and by 21% in value between July 2015 and July 2016. The increase follows a 14% volumes rise and 9% value jump in the year prior.

The volumes growth outstripped other French appellations, with the overall Burgundy category up 17% and Provence up 16%.

Aurélie Vabre, export manager for Beaujolais Wines, said: "The UK market is very exciting for Beaujolais at the moment - exports are steadily rising and the region is increasingly acclaimed by the trade. We attend many consumer events around the country, and are constantly surprised at the positive reaction to our wines."

This year, Inter Beaujolais, the trade body for Beaujolais wine producers, appointed a new president. Negociant Dominique Piron replaced Chiroubles winegrower Gilles Paris, who stepped down after serving out his two-year term.
