The Company of Wine People has dropped Ehrmanns as its distributor in the UK, in favour of Percy Fox & Co.

The South African wine firm, which owns the Arniston Bay brand, said earlier this week that the switch to Diageo-owned Percy Fox will take effect from Monday (10 August) and would also cover the Welmoed, Kumkani and Versus brand portfolios.

When contacted by just-drinks, Barney Davis, brand and business development manager for The Company of Wine People, said that the decision was taken "with a forward view".

"Whilst acknowledging the role that Ehrmanns have played in revitalising the Arniston Bay brand we feel that it is time to take the brand to the next level," he said. "We believe we have found a partner who has significant reach and influence in the market as well as a strong consumer insight capability."

Local reports last month said that Ehrmanns has been acquired by international wine investment fund Global Vintners.

The future of Fairtrade wine brand Thandi, which is currently distributed through the Ehrmanns/Company of Wine People Europe joint venture, will be the subject of a further announcement, the firm noted.
