Systembolaget has announced job cuts as part of a plan to trim back costs. The Swedish state-run alcohol retailing monopoly said yesterday (13 December) that it will shed around 80 jobs at its headquarters in a bid to cut costs by around 20% or SEK120m (US$17.8m).

The savings will be made next year, Systembolaget said.

Currently, Systembolaget has a total 355 employees at its headquarters in Stockholm.

Systembolaget has seen sales hit hard this year mainly thanks to cross-border shopping and the lower alcohol excise duties in neighbouring Denmark and Finland, compared to those in Sweden.
