The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) has appointed Fenella Nicholson as its first ever Alcohol Policy Manager to drive forward industry-wide initiatives to promote the responsible drinking of alcohol.
Speaking on her appointment, Nicholson, said: "Scotch Whisky distillers are committed to encouraging those adults that do drink, to do so responsibly, and to discourage alcohol misuse.
"While individuals must take responsibility for how they drink, we all have a role to play in promoting responsible drinking. A lot of good work is already being carried out across the industry, from unit labelling to server training, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to take forward an area of work to which distillers attach such a high priority.
"Changing attitudes will take time but the SWA and its member companies are committed to doing just that."
Nicholson joined the SWA in 2002 and has several years experience of working on industry issues within the Association's international affairs department. She has also been working in the Association's Government & Consumer Affairs Department.
