Suntory has completed its capture of Lucozade and Ribena

Suntory's Beverage & Food unit has completed its GBP1.35bn (US$2.11bn) acquisition of the Lucozade and Ribena brands from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).

The cash deal, first announced in September, was sealed on 31 December after receiving regulatory approval, UK-based GSK said. The transaction includes GSK’s Coleford manufacturing site in the UK and “the vast majority of employees at the site”.

Late last year, Suntory's Beverage & Food unit, headquarted in Osaka, Japan, raised US$3.9bn in an IPO. However, its CEO reportedly said last month that the unit will hold off on further acquisitions in 2014, to focus on its current portfolio

Parent company Suntory has a range of global businesses covering beer, spirits, wellness products, food, restaurants and flowers with around 200 divisions and 29,000 employees across Japan, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas.
