Russia's second-largest brewer SUN Interbrew has started brewing Löwenbräu, five months after securing the licence for the brand from Heineken.

Sun Interbrew's Interbeer site in St. Petersburg will produce Löwenbräu. The company is also planning a marketing push for the brand this year as it joins a portfolio that also includes Chernigivske, Klinskoye and international brands including Beck's and Staropramen.

Under the agreement with Heineken, SUN Interbrew took on the distribution of Löwenbräu beer in November but the Dutch brewer continued to brew the brand until the end of February.

SUN Interbrew's owner, InBev, bought the Löwenbräu brand in 2003 when it snapped up German beer maker Spaten.
