The Australian canned food group has said it will accept the takeover offer from Coca-Cola Amatil launched in November if no higher offer emerges.

The Competition and Consumer Commission has already given the green light for the bid.

Coke's next hurdle would be the shareholders' vote on 3 February.

SPC said: "From our point of view as directors, we have said that we would recommend the Coca Cola proposition in the absence of a higher bid.

"If somebody approaches us with a higher bid, then obviously we've got a fiduciary duty to consider that; but at this stage we haven't had any higher bids, and so we are all unanimously supporting the Coca Cola proposal."
