The US wine and spirit distributor Southern Wine & Spirits of California, has announced a number of appointments in the state of California.

Steve Slater, a 16-year employee of Southern, was named vice president, general sales manager for Southern Wine & Spirits of Southern California.

Slater previously served as vice president, general sales manager of Pacific Wine & Spirits of California, a wholly-owned division of Southern Wine & Spirits of California.

Ted Simpkins, executive vice president, general manager for Southern Wine & Spirits of California, said: "We are delighted that Steve is taking on these new responsibilities. His long tenure at our Company has prepared him well for the challenges and opportunities ahead."

Slater will report to Brad Vassar, who is general manager - Southern California of Southern Wine & Spirits of California.
 
Simpkins also announced that Steve Harden's responsibility as vice president, general sales manager of Southern Wine & Spirits of Northern California will be expanded to include responsibility for the Northern California chain business.

Brian Bousley, who formerly served as a regional sales director for Diageo North America, will assume Slater's responsibilities as vice president, general sales manager of Pacific Wine & Spirits of California.

The promotions are effective August 1, 2004.
