Carbonated soft drinks sales continued to fall in the US in 2009, according to a report.

Volume sales of carbonated drinks fell by 2% in 2009, the Beverage Digest publication reported this week.

Sales slipped back to 9.4bn cases, equivalent to levels of the mid-1990s.

The figure highglights the continuation of a long-term trend for carbonated drinks sales in the US, as consumers have switched to new categories such as water and juice.
