UK: S&N reports 28% profit rise in H1

The UK-based brewing combine, Scottish & Newcastle (S&N), posted pretax profit before goodwill and exceptionals of £309.8m for the first half of the current fiscal year, 28% up on the first six months of last year. However, group operating profit fell from £258.1m to £238.4m. Turnover rose from £2.18 billion to £2.59 billion.
