By | 23 May 2008

Brazilian brewer Schincariol has acquired the brand, recipe and distribution of the Cintra line of beers from drinks giant AmBev, for BRL39m (US$23.6m), according to reports.

The latest acquisition is reportedly part of BRL1bn in investments Schincariol has planned for 2008.

"We're going to increase our Rio de Janeiro market share by five percentage points. What is more, our national market share will rise to 12.9% from 12.1%," Schincariol board member José Augusto told reporters.

Cintra sells around 130m litres of beer a year, mainly in Brazil's south-east.

Earlier this month, Schincariol announced its acquisition of the country's artisan brewer Eisenbahn.

The purchase included a brewery (with capacity to produce 400,000 litres a month), a distribution centre in São Paulo and a thematic bar.
