Philippines-based conglomerate San Miguel Corp. has taken full control of Australian juice maker Berri.

Last Thursday (29 December), San Miguel paid A$169m (US$124.4m) to buy out the remaining 49% stake in Berri, whose brands include Daily Juice, Australian Fresh and Just Juice.

San Miguel bought half of Berri in August 2004, giving it 50%, but gained majority control last year to enable the integration of Berri's operations with National Foods, which San Miguel acquired last year.

San Miguel president Ramon S. Ang said: "Combining National Foods and Berri provides San Miguel strong leadership positions in the dairy and juice business with brands that are popular with our consumers."

Berri announced today (3 January) a 3% increase in nine-month revenues to A$371.9m (US$273.8m). Operating income reached A$20.3m.
