Local and international wine buyers paid out a record R3.59m (US$0.55m) for 2,828 (6-bottle) cases of wine at this year's 20th Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction held at the weekend.
This was up 20% on last year's figure of R2,96m for wines in the ultra-premium auction.
Foreign buyers constituted about 24% of the 130 bidders at the auction, with Tedeum Vin from Denmark again the top international buyer.
