Russian Standard took control of CEDC in June

Russian Standard acquisition Central European Distribution Corporation (CEDC) has appointed Lixir to distribute its Polish vodka brand Zubrówka across France.

The deal, which starts on 27 January, replaces, a previous agreement with Pernod Ricard, CEDC said today (8 November). Lixir is a joint venture between Rémy Cointreau and William Grant & Sons and already distributes Russian Standard Vodka in France.

The agreement follows a number of distribution changes for CEDC in the wake of its purchase by Russian Standard this year. Russian Standard's in-house distribution firm now handles Zubrówka in the US, while in June CEDC's Green Mark vodka was launched in the US through Russian Standard.

Central European Distribution Corp (CEDC) in Alcoholic Drinks (Poland)

Russian investor Roustam Tariko, the owner of Russian Standard, gained full control of CEDC in April 2013. The new owner is expected to focus more on the Russian market. This, in turn, could mean less attention devoted to the Polish operations; it is possible that the Polish part of CEDC will be sold. The GBOs Diageo Plc and Brown-Forman Corp are amongst the potential buyers.

Comment - Brown-Forman: Has the Prey become the Hunter?

It wasn't that long ago that Brown-Forman was put forward as the next company to get swallowed up in the so-called wave of consolidation that is poised to wash over the global spirits industry. And yet, the fish has become the fisherman, if recent speculation is to be believed.
